While on Chicago for Greenbuild 2010, we had the chance to interview Mark Sexton, principal at Krueck & Sexton Architects.

The Chicago-based architecture firm has separated themselves among the masses with their commitment to fuse pure forms with elegant structural details. An office culture focused on investigation and research, collaboration, and continued evaluation of design ideas, principals Ronald Krueck, FAIA and Mark Sexton have been working together since 1980.

The office’s designs range from houses and galleries to office spaces and interiors, regardless of scale focusing on craftsmanship and attention to detail. This can be seen in some of their award winning projects such as, Spertus Institue of Jewish Studies with it’s unabashedly sculptural and transparent expression, the interactive Crown Fountain, and most recently in the Transparent House II.

Krueck & Sexton are also among a very select group of Chicago architects who have successfully bridged the fabric of the city from past to present. Working together for over 30 years the majority of their projects are Chicago based and consistently reflect the firms approach to design – holding true to Mies’ spirit while working in today’s environment. Invested in their local community Ron Krueck, FAIA and Mark Sexton, AIA are involved with the local universities (Krueck has taught a design studio at IIT since 1975), and they are members of numerous local organizations within both the architecture and art communities. In 2005 Krueck & Sexton Architects were named the AIA Firm of the Year

Currently Krueck & Sexton Architects are the lead design architects for a federal agency office building in south Florida, part of the prestigious GSA Design Excellence program.
