Global architecture, urbanism and design practice Broadway Malyan has revealed the concept design for the first 21st Century shopping centre in the northern Polish city of Elbląg and wider region, which will see the city and region host international retail brands for the first time, and create over 1,000 jobs. More images and project description after the break.
Design work is now progressing on the high-profile regional ‘Siódemka’ shopping centre, following the recent acquisition of developer New Europe Property Holdings by private equity investment group Bridgehouse, with the practice now set to deliver the detailed design for the centre, including interior design and branding.

The 224,458 square metre site will boast a gross leasable area of 67,000 square metres, served by 1,800 parking spaces, and feature a fully-enclosed 40,000 square metre shopping mall, with 110 retail outlets, a themed food court and related facilities. It will also include a 27,000 square metre retail park, with 15 retail warehouse units, and a motorway service area with a fuel station and restaurants, to serve one of Poland’s busiest summer holiday routes.
Sustainability is a key factor in the design, with green spaces included in the centre, natural light maximized to reduce the need for artificial lighting, and the inclusion of ground source heat pumps.
