International Ideas Competition for a Museum of Architecture in London

ArchTriumph has just launched a two-stage, “winner of winners” international ideas competition for a new Museum of Architecture (MOA) in , on the bank of the River Thames near the old Battersea Power Station. Designs must take into account the sensitivity of the existing context and aim to become a new landmark within the city. Architects, architecture graduates, architecture students and inter-disciplinary teams are all invited to compete. Winning participants will receive cash prizes totaling US$24,000. Total Museum Building Area: 21,000 m2

Total Plot Size (Including Gardens and Museum Building): 15-acre (61,000 m2)

Program and Uses:

Design programs should include the following spaces: Pavilion Garden, Buiding Entrance, Entrace Hall, Exhibition Hall, Gallery Rooms, Suite for larger-scale work, Collection space, Children Gallery, Photographic Gallery, Anchor Gallery, Screening Room, Interpretation space, Program Facility, Learning Facility, Auditorium, Roof terraces, CloakRoom, Book and Souvenir Shop, Public Restrooms, Baby Changing facilities, Loading area, Parking area, Storage room, Administration officeS, Meeting Spaces, Programme Seminar room, Digital Resource area, Study Center/Library, Media Center, Studio Space, Studio Gallery, Cafe, Bar and Restaurant.

Special Conditions:

  • The Four Chimney at the Power Station are protected and must be part of a any design.
  • High-rise development is restricted at sites around London if it would obstruct the protected views of St Paul’s Cathedral.
  • The volume must relate harmoniously with the context of the existing structure and unique location.
  • There is no restriction in regards to the choice of materials, however it should compliment the existing brick design of this iconic structure and coherent with the integral its image.
  • The design of the New Museum should be contemporary and inclusive.

Fees and Dates:

  • Special Registration: $100 US from 2nd April 12:00 (GMT) to 16th April 2012 11:59 (GMT)
  • Early Registration: $120 US from 16th April 12:00 (GMT) to 19th June 2012 11:59 (GMT)
  • Standard Registration: $150 US from 19th June 12:00 (GMT) to 20th July 2012 11:59 (GMT)
  • Late Registration: $250 US from 20th July 12:00 (GMT) to 24th August 2012 11:59 (GMT)

  • US$ 10,000 (TEN THOUSAND US DOLLARS)
